The vulva is the home of the vagina and clitoris. No vulva is the same as another, which means that there are so many ways for a vulva to be stimulated! Of course, this is dependent on what the person with the vulva prefers.
The majority of people with vulvas, approximately 75-85%, require clitoral stimulation in order to orgasm. The clitoris is often the most sensitive part of the vulva. Though there’s been some debate, most agree that the clitoris’ main purpose is pleasure! What’s usually visible, if it’s not completely covered by the clitoral hood, is truly the tip of the iceberg. The clitoris extends into the body and splits into clitoral legs that connect to the pelvic bone and to the clitoral bulbs. The clitoral bulbs sit behind the labia, and flank each side of the vaginal canal.
Most importantly, the entire clitoral structure is made of erectile tissue, engorging with excitement during stimulation! The clitoral bulbs squeeze the vaginal canal ever so slightly, promoting the secretion of vaginal fluid and lubrication.
The length of the vaginal canal varies, and resembles a short flattened tube when unaroused. During arousal, the canal expands to accommodate penetration if that is wanted. Lubrication may occur, but that is dependent on the person’s body and other factors that can contribute to natural lubrication.
Between the vaginal canal and the urethra is a structure known as the urethral sponge, or the G-Spot. During penetration, stimulating the urethral sponge can make an orgasm feel longer, and more sustained. Truly, however, orgasms feel different for everyone.
Vulvas are wonderful! But there is also a plethora of misinformation, miseducation, and shame that’s often shared with the quickest speed. Instead of focusing on misinformation, explore what the person with the vulva would prefer. Would they want penetration or clitoral stimulation only? Would they want a dual stimulator instead?
